Battery by James Grinwis

(converts stored chemical energy into current)

I am turning into mega boy of the country.

When I go to parties, I no longer drink wine. I ask for a mason jar filled with moonshine and fertilizer.

My dogs are all sleek and strong in the limbs, they eat things I cannot identify.

It struck me how beautiful male mosquitoes are when they’re dead, wings like glass yarn, their patterns subtle microchips.

My dogs encircle me, they protect my problem.

My wife left 3 weeks ago and it’s reached that zone, the one where you don’t come back.

My children are out climbing, swinging from the topmost branches of the trees.
